Cyclone Senyar Likely to Form in 48 Hours

South India Braces for Heavy Rain as IMD Issues Alert

New Delhi: Weather conditions in the Bay of Bengal are turning increasingly turbulent, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning that a well-marked low-pressure system may intensify into Cyclone Senyar within the next 48 hours. The alert has put several southern states on heightened preparedness as they brace for intense rainfall and strong winds.

The rapidly strengthening system is expected to track northwestward, triggering heavy to very heavy rain across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Lakshadweep, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Coastal regions may also witness squally winds and rough sea conditions.

Authorities have urged fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea, warning of dangerous waves and deteriorating marine weather. Coastal disaster management teams have already begun mobilising resources, setting up control rooms, and identifying vulnerable low-lying areas prone to flooding.

In Tamil Nadu and Kerala, district administrations have placed emergency response units on standby and issued local alerts to residents. Some coastal schools and institutions may be temporarily closed depending on how the system evolves.

The IMD has advised the public to stay updated with official bulletins as the developing weather system edges closer to cyclonic strength.
