Vijay Returns With a Roar: Actor-Politician Breaks Silence After Karur Tragedy, Slams DMK in Powerful Comeback Speech

Tamil cinema superstar–turned–politician Vijay has made a dramatic return to public life, marking his first outreach event since the devastating Karur stampede that claimed 41 lives. The event, held at an indoor venue near Kancheepuram, drew around 2,000 people — a carefully controlled gathering after the Karur tragedy forced him to pause large public rallies.

In a fiery and unapologetic address, Vijay launched a direct attack on the ruling DMK, accusing the party of abandoning the ideals of Tamil Nadu’s Dravidian founders. He alleged that the DMK’s functioning had turned into “looting” and “dynasty-driven politics,” even describing it as a “syndicate of dacoits.” His sharp words made it clear that Vijay, through his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), is preparing for a serious political push.

Vijay highlighted his own party’s ideological standpoints — from demanding a caste census to strongly opposing the CAA — and assured the crowd that his politics would be rooted in social welfare and equality. He promised permanent housing for all, motorcycles for households, a stronger public healthcare system, and transparent policing, positioning TVK as a people-centric alternative.

Interestingly, Vijay chose not to directly reference the Karur tragedy during the speech. But his tone made it clear that he had emerged from the crisis defiant and determined. “If anyone wants to attack me, let them,” he declared. “But leave my people alone.”

His re-entry into public engagement signals a powerful new chapter in Tamil Nadu politics — and a clear warning shot to established parties as the state gears up for a heated political season.
