Six Killed, Dozens Injured as Two Private Buses Collide Head-On in Tenkasi

A tragic road accident shook Tamil Nadu’s Tenkasi district on Monday morning, as two private buses collided head-on near Idaikal village, leaving six people dead and more than 35 passengers injured. The crash, which occurred on the busy Thirumangalam–Kollam National Highway, caused widespread panic as locals and authorities rushed to rescue trapped passengers.

According to police, one bus was travelling from Tenkasi to Rajapalayam, while the other was headed from Sankarankovil to Tenkasi when the violent collision took place. The impact was so severe that both vehicles were badly mangled, leading to immediate casualties.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed deep grief over the loss of lives and promptly deputed Minister K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, the in-charge of Tenkasi district, to visit the accident site and oversee emergency relief operations. Senior officials, including the District Collector and Superintendent of Police, coordinated swift rescue efforts, ensuring that the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals.

Hospital authorities confirmed that several victims are in critical condition, while emergency teams continue to monitor and provide necessary medical care. Preliminary investigations hint that speeding and negligent driving may have contributed to the horrific accident, though a detailed inquiry is underway.

The deadly collision has once again raised concerns over road safety and reckless driving on national highways, prompting calls for stricter enforcement and better monitoring systems.
