Amazon to Lay Off Over 14,000 Employees; 1,800 Engineers Affected

New Delhi: American tech giant Amazon has announced that it will lay off more than 14,000 employees, including around 1,800 engineers. Reports indicate that the layoffs are part of a massive restructuring effort within the company.

The job cuts will affect employees across almost every area of Amazon’s business — from cloud services and retail to advertising and grocery operations. Engineers working in New York, California, New Jersey, and Washington are expected to be the most impacted.

According to the company, the layoffs are not directly linked to artificial intelligence (AI). Instead, Amazon stated that the workforce reduction aims to streamline operations and speed up decision-making.

However, the company acknowledged that the shift toward AI is reshaping the workforce. As AI technology boosts efficiency, several white-collar roles may shrink over time. Among all divisions, Amazon’s gaming sector appears to be the most heavily affected by the restructuring.
