New Delhi: Flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport have returned to normal after a major technical glitch in the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system caused hours of disruption on Friday. The airport authority confirmed that the issue has been fully resolved and normal flight movement has resumed.
According to officials, the glitch led to widespread delays and several flight cancellations throughout the day, affecting both domestic and international passengers. Airlines reported cascading delays as aircraft were held up on the ground and in the air due to the ATC system malfunction.
In a statement, the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) said, “The technical issue affecting the ATC system has been rectified. Flight operations are now running smoothly. We regret the inconvenience caused to passengers and appreciate their patience and cooperation.”
Airlines have begun rescheduling affected flights, and passengers are being notified about revised timings. Authorities also mentioned that contingency measures are being reviewed to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The temporary disruption caused heavy crowding at terminals and long queues at check-in counters, but airport officials said operations have now stabilized, and flight schedules are expected to normalize completely by late evening.
