New Delhi: The 2025 edition of the World University Rankings by Times Higher Education (THE) sees the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore emerging as India’s top-ranked institution, securing a position in the 251-300 global band. Despite dropping slightly from last year’s 201-250 band, IISc remains India’s best, highlighting its sustained excellence.
Several other Indian universities made notable progress. Anna University, Mahatma Gandhi University, and Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences all improved their standing, advancing from the 501-600 band in 2024 to the 401-500 band in 2025.
IIT Indore marked an impressive debut, landing in the 501-600 band, after being absent from the rankings last year. Jamia Millia Islamia held steady in the 501-600 band, while Aligarh Muslim University and Banaras Hindu University secured spots in the 601-800 band.

Despite the improvements, no Indian university broke into the top 100, signaling room for further growth on the global stage.
