Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the ongoing conflict in West Asia is a serious concern and has created a global energy crisis. Addressing the Rajya Sabha, he said many ships, including those with Indian crew, are stranded in the Strait of Hormuz, making the situation more worrying for India.
He said nearly one crore Indians live in Gulf countries, and their safety is a top priority. The government is in touch with countries in the region, including Iran, Israel, and the United States. Modi said attacks on commercial ships and disruption of key waterways are unacceptable. He added that India has condemned attacks on civilians and infrastructure.
The Prime Minister said India is working through dialogue and diplomacy to reduce tensions and restore peace. He also assured that efforts are being made to ensure a steady supply of oil, gas, and fertilizers. Ships carrying these have reached India in recent days.
Modi said the government is monitoring the situation closely and has plans to manage short-term and long-term impacts. He also assured farmers that there will be no shortage of fertilizers and that the government will support them during this crisis.
