Wayanad Environmentalists Oppose Easing of Bandipur Night Traffic Ban Amid Political Pressure

Environmentalists in Wayanad have strongly opposed any move to relax the night traffic ban through Bandipur Tiger Reserve, citing ecological concerns and the potential threat to wildlife. The ban, enforced since 2009, has been a long-standing issue for Wayanad residents, who argue that it affects connectivity and economic activities.

The All India Congress Committee (AICC) leadership is reportedly pressuring the Karnataka government to ease restrictions, responding to demands from Wayanad’s people. With AICC leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra now representing the constituency, the political push for lifting the ban has intensified. However, conservationists warn that increased vehicular movement could endanger the region’s rich biodiversity and disrupt the habitat of endangered species.

The debate continues as stakeholders weigh environmental protection against developmental needs, with the final decision expected to have significant implications for both Wayanad and Karnataka.
