The Election Commission of India has extended the deadline for submitting complaints on the draft electoral roll prepared under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. Eligible voters can now raise objections and submit required documents until January 30, following directions from the Supreme Court.
The earlier deadline of January 22 was revised after the Kerala government approached the Supreme Court seeking additional time. Acting on the court’s instructions, the Election Commission issued an official order granting the extension.
The Supreme Court also directed that details of voters removed from the rolls must be displayed at public places such as panchayat offices. To ensure transparency and allow citizens to verify their status, the lists of excluded voters are to be published on official websites as well.
The court further emphasized that adequate opportunity must be provided for those excluded from the draft list to file complaints. The draft voter list in Kerala was published on December 23, 2025.
Similar extensions have been granted in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu, with the complaint submission deadline in those states also extended until January 30.
