Chennai, India – T Veena, the daughter of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and director of Exalogic, made an appearance at the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) in Chennai today as part of the ongoing investigation into financial irregularities surrounding her firm.

Accompanied by her lawyer, Veena arrived at the SFIO office at 9 am on Monday to provide her statement to SFIO officer Arun Prasad. The investigation centers around alleged financial discrepancies within Exalogic. The SFIO’s only office in South India is situated in Chennai.

The development follows a recent decision by the High Court of Karnataka, which dismissed a petition filed by Exalogic against an SFIO probe into its affairs. The Union Ministry of Corporate Affairs had directed SFIO to investigate the company, a decision challenged by Exalogic in the Karnataka High Court. Justice M Nagaprasanna dismissed the petition.

Earlier this month, the Kerala High Court had also declined to stay the SFIO probe into the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC), Exalogic, and the Kochi-based mining company CMRL.

Controversy emerged in Kerala when certain media reports last year revealed that CMRL had allegedly paid a total of Rs 1.72 crore to Veena Vijayan’s firm between 2017 and 2020. The reports cited an interim board for settlement, claiming that CMRL had a previous agreement with Veena’s IT firm for consultancy and software support services. The reports further alleged that despite no services being rendered, monthly payments were made to her firm “due to her relationship with a prominent person.” The findings by the Registrar of Companies (ROC) against her firm were also mentioned in the reports.

Veena Vijayan’s appearance before the SFIO marks a significant development in the investigation into financial irregularities involving Exalogic, shedding light on the complex web of allegations and legal proceedings surrounding the case.
