Chennai: The Railways have officially announced ticket fares for the much-awaited Vande Bharat Sleeper trains, setting a minimum fare of ₹960 in Third AC, making it the base price for travel anywhere in Kerala. Even passengers covering shorter distances will be charged for a minimum journey of 400 kilometres.
A key highlight of the new service is that only confirmed tickets will be issued. The Railways have clarified that RAC and waiting-list tickets will not be allowed, ensuring a hassle-free and fully confirmed travel experience for passengers.
The Vande Bharat Sleeper train will feature 11 Third AC coaches, four Second AC coaches, and one First AC coach, with a total capacity of 823 passengers.
Fare Structure:
- Third AC: Minimum fare ₹960
- Second AC: ₹1,240 for up to 400 km
- First AC: ₹1,520 for up to 400 km
For distances beyond 400 km, fares will increase at a minimum rate of ₹4 per kilometre.
For long-distance journeys of up to 1,000 km, the fares are:
- Third AC: ₹2,400
- Second AC: ₹3,100
- First AC: ₹3,800
The Railways also noted that GST will be charged in addition to the ticket fare. On a per-kilometre basis, passengers will be charged ₹2.4 for Third AC, ₹3.1 for Second AC, and ₹3.8 for First AC.
With its fixed minimum fares, confirmed-ticket-only policy, and modern sleeper coaches, the Vande Bharat Sleeper is set to redefine premium overnight rail travel in the state.
