Thiruvananthapuram: Authorities have issued a warning as ultraviolet (UV) radiation levels rise across Kerala, with the highest readings recorded in the past 24 hours at Munnar and Konni. Both locations reported a UV Index of 8, prompting the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority to issue an Orange Alert and urge residents to take precautionary measures against intense sunlight exposure.
Meanwhile, a Yellow Alert has been declared in several other areas including Kottarakkara, Chengannur, Changanassery, Kalamassery, Ollur, Thrithala, Ponnani, Beypore and Mananthavady. Health experts caution that prolonged exposure to strong UV rays can lead to sunburn, skin disorders, eye damage and other health issues. According to safety guidelines, a UV Index of 6–7 triggers a Yellow Alert, 8–10 an Orange Alert and above 11 a Red Alert, highlighting the need for the public to stay protected while outdoors.
