US Secretary of State Marco Rubio Arrives in Kolkata on Four-Day India Visit

United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived in Kolkata on Saturday, marking the beginning of his four-day diplomatic visit to India. The visit holds political and historical significance, as it marks the first visit by a US Secretary of State to the eastern metropolis in nearly 14 years.Rubio’s arrival comes at a politically significant moment, only weeks after West Bengal witnessed a major political shift with a BJP-led government taking office.Welcoming the visit, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor shared a post on X confirming Rubio’s arrival and outlining the agenda for the diplomatic tour.

“Secretary Marco Rubio has landed in Kolkata. This is his first trip to India. Later today, we will call on Prime Minister @narendramodi in New Delhi. Trade, Technology, Defense, QUAD, and many other items to discuss and advance over the next few days,” the ambassador posted.

During the visit, Rubio is expected to hold high-level discussions with Indian leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in New Delhi.

Key issues likely to dominate the talks include bilateral trade, technological cooperation, defence partnerships, and collaboration within the QUAD framework. The visit is being closely watched as both nations seek to strengthen strategic and diplomatic ties amid evolving regional and global challenges.Rubio’s tour is expected to further reinforce the growing partnership between India and the United States across multiple sectors.
