Police have arrested two people in connection with an alleged racket involved in preparing fake documents for organ donation procedures in Kerala.
The accused were identified as Sunny Varghese, owner of Sun Communications in Kunnathunad, and his wife Sini Varghese. Police said the couple were associates of the main suspect, Najeem, a native of Kasaragod, who allegedly acted as an agent in the organ donation racket.
Police teams from Kunnathunad, Thrikkakara and Ambalamedu stations conducted inspections at the establishments on Tuesday.
Investigators suspect the involvement of a larger mafia network behind the creation of forged documents for organ donation cases in Ernakulam. According to police, fake recommendation letters in the names of MPs and MLAs were used to carry out the fraud.
Najeem and his wife are believed to be the key accused in the case and are currently absconding. Police said Najeem’s wife is a lawyer and that her identity was allegedly used to facilitate the scam.
