Twin Low-Pressure Systems to Drench Kerala: IMD Issues Yellow Alert in Multiple Districts

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is set to witness heavy monsoon showers from Thursday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of back-to-back low-pressure systems over the Bay of Bengal. Yellow alerts have been sounded across several districts, cautioning residents of intense rainfall through the weekend.

Currently, a low-pressure area lingers over Gangetic West Bengal, northern Odisha, and adjoining parts of the Bay of Bengal. Though it may weaken soon, another system is likely to form by Thursday, reactivating rain clouds over Kerala.

🔹 Thursday: Heavy rain in Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur
🔹 Friday: Alerts in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur
🔹 Saturday: Showers for Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod

The IMD has defined heavy rainfall as 64.5–115.5 mm within 24 hours and advised fishermen to avoid venturing into seas off Kerala, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep between Thursday and Saturday due to rough weather.

By Friday, the second system is expected to intensify into a depression near the north Andhra–south Odisha coast, making landfall the next day.
