Chennai: A heart-wrenching accident in Tamil Nadu’s Cuddalore district claimed the lives of three young students after a speeding train collided with a school van at an unmanned level crossing. At least ten other children sustained injuries, with several reported to be in critical condition.
The incident took place near Chemmankuppam, involving students from Krishnaswami Matriculation School. As the school van was attempting to cross the tracks, it was struck by the Chennai–Tiruchendur Express, resulting in a violent impact that hurled the vehicle a considerable distance.
Emergency responders rushed the injured children to the Cuddalore Government Hospital, where many are undergoing intensive treatment.
Shocked and grieving locals have pointed fingers at lax railway safety protocols, urging authorities to address the dangers of unmanned level crossings to prevent further tragedies.
