In a distressing incident in Wayanad, Kerala, a tribal man named Mathan was dragged for nearly 500 meters on the bonnet of a car by tourists following a verbal altercation between two groups. The incident occurred near the Koodal Kadavu check dam site. Mathan, a 49-year-old resident of Mananthavady, suffered injuries to his arms and legs and is currently receiving medical treatment.
The incident was captured on CCTV, showing the inhumane treatment of Mathan. Authorities have registered a case and seized the vehicle involved. However, the accused individuals have not yet been arrested.
Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi has called for stringent action against the perpetrators, emphasizing the need for swift justice. Kerala Minister for SC, ST & BC, O R Kelu, described the incident as serious and assured that the authorities would take prompt action. Former State Minister and current Lok Sabha member K. Radhakrishnan condemned the act, stating that such behavior is unacceptable and that the law should hold the wrongdoers accountable. Wayanad MLA T. Siddique expressed concern over the treatment of tribals in Kerala, labeling the incident as unacceptable and promising action against the wrongdoers. Tribal leader C.K. Janu termed the incident as grave and unfortunate, attributing the tourists’ behavior to possible intoxication and calling for their immediate arrest.
