Thiruvananthapuram: Union Minister and BJP MP Suresh Gopi has lashed out at the LDF government in Kerala, accusing it of denying people access to the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme by refusing to contribute its share of the funding.
During a public interaction, the actor-turned-politician alleged that many hospitals in the state were unable to accept Ayushman Bharat patients due to the government’s non-cooperation. “Hospitals cannot implement the scheme because Kerala has not released its share. This political stance is depriving people of a programme that ensures critical health support,” suresh gopi said.
Gopi further stressed that the Centre was fully prepared to back the rollout of the scheme in Kerala but warned that public welfare should not be sacrificed for political reasons.
The Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) provides up to ₹5 lakh of free annual health coverage per family, benefiting crores across India. Kerala, however, has chosen to rely on its own Karunya health insurance scheme, citing overlaps and policy differences with the central plan.
