Ranchi: Candidates who cleared the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission-Combined Graduate Level (JSSC-CGL) examination and were subsequently appointed to various government departments took to the streets on Tuesday, protesting the state government’s decision to cancel the recruitment examination.
The protesters marched from the Jharkhand Secretariat towards Birsa Chowk, raising concerns over the future of their jobs. Around 2,000 candidates who secured government positions through the JSSC-CGL recruitment process are facing uncertainty following the government’s decision to scrap the examination.
The candidates argued that they had cleared the examination through the prescribed recruitment process and should not be penalised for alleged irregularities in the system. They demanded that any wrongdoing be investigated and action be taken against those responsible, rather than cancelling the entire examination and putting their appointments at risk.
The protest came a day after the Jharkhand Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, decided to cancel the JSSC-CGL examination along with recruitment examinations conducted by outsourced agency TSR Data Processing Pvt Ltd since 2014.
The government’s decision was taken amid a long-running student agitation over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations. While the cancellation was welcomed by the protesting job aspirants, it triggered a fresh demonstration by candidates who had already cleared the JSSC-CGL examination and joined government service.
The affected candidates have indicated that they may explore legal options to protect their appointments and careers.
