Stricter Railway Security: ID Proof Now Mandatory for All Group Travelers

Thiruvananthapuram: In a move to tighten security following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Indian Railways has made it compulsory for every passenger traveling on a group ticket to carry valid identity proof during the journey. The Southern Railway has issued strict orders to ticket examiners and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel to enforce this rule without exception.

Although ID proof is not required at the time of booking group tickets—whether online or at counters—each traveler must present valid identification while boarding and even to access platforms. Security personnel will conduct checks at entry gates and other critical points, particularly at major railway stations.

Railway authorities have also made it clear that any lapse by staff in implementing these checks will lead to stringent disciplinary action. The heightened vigilance aims to ensure passenger safety amid growing national security concerns.
