Sitharaman Meets Kerala CM Amid Financial Crisis, Key Demands Raised

New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman held crucial talks with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in New Delhi to address the state’s ongoing financial crisis. The discussions revolved around Kerala’s request for increased financial assistance and an extension of deadlines for utilizing previously sanctioned funds.

Amid rising concerns, CM Vijayan stressed the urgent need for a special financial package to support rehabilitation efforts in Wayanad, a region severely impacted by recent landslides. Additionally, he sought the Centre’s intervention to resolve the prolonged protest by Asha workers, who have been demanding higher wages for over 26 days.

The meeting takes place against the backdrop of ongoing disputes over fund allocations to Kerala. CM Vijayan had earlier accused Finance Minister Sitharaman of misleading the public regarding the timely release of central funds to the state.

The outcome of this high-profile discussion is expected to have major implications for Kerala’s financial stability, impacting both short-term relief measures and long-term development plans. The state now awaits the Centre’s response to its pressing demands.
