Sikkim Celebrates 50 Glorious Years of Statehood; PM Modi, President Murmu Extend Heartfelt Wishes

Sikkim marked a historic milestone—its 50th Statehood Day—with pride and patriotic fervor. Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended warm greetings to the people of the Himalayan state, praising its serene landscapes, vibrant culture, and the resilience of its citizens. In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), he commended Sikkim’s remarkable progress across sectors and wished the state continued prosperity and growth.

Sikkim became the 22nd state of India on May 16, 1975, following a historic referendum that led to the abolition of its monarchy and seamless integration into the Indian Union. Over the past five decades, the state has earned national recognition for its dedication to sustainable development and environmental preservation.

To mark the golden jubilee, a vibrant Tiranga Rally was held in Gangtok in honor of the Indian Armed Forces and Operation Sindoor. The rally was a powerful display of unity, patriotism, and national pride.

President Droupadi Murmu also extended her greetings, lauding Sikkim’s cultural richness and commitment to ecological harmony. She applauded the state’s achievements in sustainable living, calling it one of the most environmentally conscious regions in the country.

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang hailed the day as “historic,” reflecting on Sikkim’s journey from a monarchy to a modern Indian state. He reiterated his vision of “Sunaulo Sikkim, Samriddha Sikkim, and Samarth Sikkim” — a Golden, Prosperous, and Empowered Sikkim — aligned with the broader national aspiration of Viksit Bharat (Developed India).

The 50th Statehood Day not only celebrated Sikkim’s past achievements but also renewed the collective commitment of its people toward a future of growth, inclusivity, and harmony.
