SC Declines to Cancel Bail of Actor Soubin Shahir in ₹7 Crore ‘Manjummel Boys’ Fraud Case

The Supreme Court has refused to cancel the anticipatory bail granted to Malayalam actor Soubin Shahir, his father Babu Shahir, and producer Shaun Antony in a high-profile fraud case linked to the blockbuster film Manjummel Boys. Citing that the matter appeared to be a civil dispute under arbitration, the apex court declined to intervene, prompting the petitioner to withdraw the plea.

The complaint was filed by Siraj, who accused the trio of defrauding him of ₹7 crore, alleging they had promised him 40% of the film’s profits in exchange for his investment during production. Siraj claimed that despite this agreement, he was denied his rightful share.

The filmmakers countered the allegations, stating that Siraj failed to transfer the funds on time, which disrupted the film’s shooting schedule, and therefore he was not entitled to any profit share.

All three accused had been granted anticipatory bail by the Kerala High Court, which Siraj sought to overturn through a petition in the Supreme Court.

With the top court refusing to intervene, the dispute now shifts toward civil litigation and ongoing arbitration, potentially setting the stage for a prolonged legal battle in the entertainment industry.
