Saif Ali Khan Attack: Digital Payment Leads to Arrest of Suspect

Mumbai police have successfully arrested Shariful Islam Shehzad, a 30-year-old Bangladeshi national, in connection with the brutal stabbing of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. The breakthrough came when Shehzad’s digital payment for a paratha, made at a food stall in Worli, helped authorities track his location, leading to his arrest.

On January 16, 2025, Shehzad, who had entered India illegally under the alias Vijay Das, broke into Khan’s home in Bandra West with the intention of committing theft. However, when Khan confronted the intruder, he was viciously attacked and stabbed multiple times, including a severe wound near his spinal cord. A female employee at the residence was also injured. Both victims have since undergone surgery and are recovering.

Despite fleeing the scene and changing clothes to evade capture, Shehzad’s attempt to hide was thwarted when police traced his digital payment for breakfast. Within hours of the transaction, authorities pinpointed his location in Thane, leading to his arrest.

Shehzad is facing charges under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including robbery and house-breaking. He remains in police custody as investigations continue to probe if there is an international conspiracy behind the attack.

The swift response of Mumbai police, aided by digital technology, showcases the power of modern investigative tools in bringing criminals to justice.
