Palakkad: Fear is mounting in Kerala’s Attappadi region as another fatal wild elephant attack has claimed the life of a 60-year-old man, marking the second such tragedy in just ten days. The victim, Mallan of Cheerakadavu, was fatally injured after a wild elephant struck him with its trunk while he was tending to his cattle near a forested area close to his home.
The shocking attack occurred around noon yesterday. Mallan sustained severe injuries to his chest and ribs and was rushed by forest officials to Kottathara Taluk Hospital. As his condition worsened, he was shifted to Thrissur Medical College for advanced treatment. Despite intensive care and ventilator support, he passed away early this morning around 7:30 AM.
This incident follows closely on the heels of another elephant attack that claimed the life of Ummar near Mannarkkad. The back-to-back tragedies have sparked growing concern among local communities, who are now urging authorities to implement urgent wildlife safety measures.
With frequent elephant encounters turning deadly, residents of Attappadi are living in fear, demanding swift and effective action from the forest department to prevent further loss of life.
