Rigorous imprisonment  for  10  years  to IS activist

Kochi, Feb 09 (IVC)    The  Special National  Investigation Agency (NIA)  Court  judge here  Mini S Das  today awarded 10  years rigorous  imprisonment  to Riyas Aboobacker .

                The  alleged  IS  activist   Riyas  Aboobacker was   found  guilty  and convicted  on Feb  7, under Section 38  of the Unlawful Activities  Prevention Act (UAPA)  dealing  with  the  offence   relating  to the membership  of a terrorist organization   and Section 39  of the UAPA  for support  given  to a terrorist organization   and under Section 120B  of the Indian Penal Code  for criminal conspiracy.

                He  was  arrested in 2019  while  collecting explosives  to  blast bombs  at different Centres, the prosecution  added. Though  the  convicted  maintained  that he was innocent  and no offence  as alleged  by the  prosecution  was committed  by  him, he pleaded for leniency  in deciding the quantum of  punishment considering his poor  financial  position. Further  details  of  the  judgment   were  awaited.
