Kochi: Renowned nephrologist and senior urologist Dr. George P. Abraham was found dead at his farmhouse near Nedumbassery, Ernakulam. He was 70. Dr. Abraham, a leading expert in kidney transplantation, had reportedly performed over 2,000 kidney transplants and numerous laparoscopic urological surgeries over a career spanning 25 years.
According to reports, Dr. Abraham and his brother Paul had visited their farmhouse on Sunday evening. He later asked to be left alone for some time. When he did not respond to calls, family members rushed to the farmhouse, where they found him dead. Police suspect that he had been battling depression due to illness. The incident is believed to have occurred between 7:30 PM and 10:30 PM.
Dr. Abraham was a senior surgeon at Ernakulam’s Lakeshore Hospital and was widely respected for his contributions to nephrology and organ transplantation. His body has been shifted to a hospital in Aluva for post-mortem examination, after which it will be handed over to the family.
The Nedumbassery Police have registered a case of unnatural death and initiated an investigation.
