Rekha Gupta to be Sworn in as Delhi’s New Chief Minister Today

New Delhi: Rekha Gupta is all set to take oath as the new Chief Minister of Delhi today, making history as the fourth woman to hold this prestigious position. The grand oath-taking ceremony will be held at the iconic Ramlila Maidan, with high-profile dignitaries, celebrities, and party leaders in attendance.

Gupta, a 50-year-old former student leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was chosen as CM following the party’s resounding victory in the Delhi assembly elections, where they secured 48 out of 70 seats. This marks BJP’s return to power in the capital after 27 years.

In her first statement after being named CM, Gupta expressed her gratitude to the party and outlined her vision for Delhi. She promised to tackle key challenges such as air and river pollution, improve infrastructure, and introduce reforms in education and healthcare. Her ambitious agenda includes revamping government schools, providing free healthcare, ensuring free electricity, and offering financial support of ₹2,500 per month to underprivileged women.

To ensure inclusive governance, BJP has carefully selected a diverse cabinet, with representatives from Jaat, Sikh, Punjabi, Dalit, and Purvanchali communities. Notable ministers in her cabinet include Parvesh Verma, Manjinder Sirsa, Ashish Sood, Ravinder Indraj Singh, Pankaj Singh, and Kapil Mishra.

Ahead of the ceremony, Delhi Traffic Police has issued advisories to manage congestion around Ramlila Maidan. Commuters are advised to plan their routes accordingly to avoid delays.

Gupta’s appointment is a major milestone in Indian politics, signaling a growing trend of female leadership. With her swearing-in, she joins Mamata Banerjee as one of only two female Chief Ministers currently serving in India.
