Ramadan 2025: India to Begin Fasting from March 2 After Moon Remains Unseen

The crescent moon marking the start of Ramadan 2025 was not sighted in India on February 28, delaying the beginning of the holy month. As a result, Muslims across the country will commence fasting on March 2, 2025. In contrast, Saudi Arabia confirmed the sighting of the moon on February 28, with fasting starting a day earlier, on March 1, 2025.

Since the start of Ramadan is traditionally determined by the lunar calendar, regional variations in moon sightings often lead to differences in the commencement of fasting. Indian Muslims will observe Taraweeh prayers on the night of March 1, followed by the first Sehri (pre-dawn meal) and fast on March 2. The Sehri and Iftar (meal to break the fast) timings will vary by region, and devotees are encouraged to check with local mosques for accurate schedules.

Ramadan is a sacred month of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community for Muslims worldwide. The observance will conclude with Eid al-Fitr, a grand celebration marking the end of fasting, which will be determined by the sighting of the next crescent moon towards the end of March 2025.

As Muslims across India prepare for this spiritually enriching period, they are encouraged to engage in increased worship, self-discipline, and acts of charity, embracing the essence of Ramadan.
