Thiruvananthapuram: The BJP has appointed former Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar as its new Kerala State President, marking a major political shift in the party’s state leadership. The decision was finalized in the state core committee meeting.
The move is seen as part of BJP’s strategy to bring sweeping changes in its Kerala unit, aiming to eliminate factionalism and strengthen the party’s organizational base. The RSS has also extended its support to Rajeev, adding to the significance of this decision.
After contesting a high-stakes battle against Shashi Tharoor in the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha elections, Rajeev has been increasingly active in Kerala politics. His decision to permanently shift his base to Thiruvananthapuram was already seen as a strong indicator of his growing influence in the state.
Prakash Javadekar officially announced Rajeev’s name in the core committee meeting. With this new leadership, BJP hopes to reshape its political trajectory in Kerala and establish a stronger foothold in the state. The official announcement is expected tomorrow.
