Rainy Days Ahead for Kerala: IMD Warns of Heavy Showers and Strong Winds Up to 50 kmph

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is set to experience a wet spell over the next four days as a low-pressure area over the Gangetic plains of West Bengal brings widespread rainfall across the state, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced. Adding to the weather system, a trough stretching from the southern Gujarat coast to southern Karnataka is expected to further enhance the rains.

The low-pressure system is projected to drift towards Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh in the next 2–3 days. Under its influence, several areas in Kerala—particularly in the north—are likely to witness isolated heavy rainfall.

In addition to the showers, strong winds ranging from 40 to 50 kmph may lash parts of the state until Tuesday. Authorities have urged the public to stay alert and take necessary precautions.

The IMD forecasts daily rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm, with northern districts such as Kannur and Kasaragod under yellow alert on Wednesday and Thursday. While a brief dip in rain intensity is expected in the next two days, conditions are likely to intensify again midweek.
