In response to the tragic stampede at New Delhi Railway Station on February 15, which resulted in 18 fatalities, the Indian Railways Ministry has unveiled a comprehensive overhaul of crowd-control measures across major stations in India. The incident occurred during the evening rush as passengers gathered to board trains for the Maha Kumbh festival, with confusion over a last-minute platform change leading to panic and chaos. The youngest victim was just seven years old, while the oldest was 79.
The Ministry’s new safety reforms include color-coded platform signage for easier navigation, specialized crowd management teams for peak hours, real-time monitoring through centralized war rooms, and enhanced public announcement systems for timely updates. Additionally, six senior Delhi Police officers have been deployed to strengthen crowd-control efforts at the station. These initiatives aim to prevent future tragedies and ensure safer, more organized railway travel for millions of passengers daily.
