Members of the Indian community and admirers of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore gathered in Shanghai on Thursday to pay tribute to him on his 165th birth anniversary.
The commemorative event was led by the Indian Consulate General in Shanghai. Floral tributes were offered at Tagore’s bust on Maoming Street and at his statue in Lu Xun Public Park.
Indian Consul General Pratik Mathur highlighted the importance of strengthening cultural and people-to-people ties between India and China during the occasion.
Tagore continues to enjoy a strong following among Chinese scholars and intellectuals.
