Prime Minister Welcomes the Start of UNESCO’s 20th Session on Intangible Cultural Heritage in India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his happiness as India hosts the 20th Session of UNESCO’s Committee on Intangible Cultural Heritage. The prestigious global cultural event has commenced with participation from several member nations, cultural experts, and heritage advocates.

The Prime Minister noted that hosting this session is a matter of pride for India, a country known for its diverse and rich intangible cultural traditions—from classical arts and crafts to festivals, oral traditions, and traditional knowledge systems. PM emphasized that the event provides a platform to showcase India’s cultural depth while also strengthening global cooperation in heritage preservation.

The session will focus on safeguarding practices, rituals, performing arts, and other intangible cultural elements from around the world. Discussions will also include new nominations for UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list.

India’s role as the host underscores its growing influence in global cultural diplomacy and its commitment to preserving both national and global heritage.
