Political Parties to Meet Today on Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls

A crucial meeting of political party representatives on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls will be held in Thiruvananthapuram today, with the Chief Electoral Officer convening the discussions at 11 am.

The meeting comes in response to a long-pending demand from political parties to hold deliberations after the completion of the local body elections. With the polls now over, the Election Commission is expected to seek active cooperation from all parties to ensure the smooth completion of the voter list revision process.

During the previous meeting, all political parties except the BJP had called for an extension of the deadline for submitting enumeration forms. According to official figures available till last evening, 99.71 per cent of the total forms distributed have already been digitised.

However, around 24.92 lakh enumeration forms are yet to be received. Officials say these largely pertain to deceased voters and those who have changed their place of residence. Chief Electoral Officer Rathan Kelkar has appealed to voters who are yet to submit their forms to do so at the earliest, stressing the importance of timely completion of the SIR process.
