Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Kartavya Bhavan, the first of ten cutting-edge Central Secretariat buildings planned under the Central Vista redevelopment project. Spanning a massive 1.5 lakh square kilometers, this ultra-modern facility will consolidate key ministries — including Home Affairs, External Affairs, Rural Development, and Petroleum & Natural Gas — currently scattered across Delhi, under a single, integrated complex.
Boasting seven floors above two basement levels, the building is designed to replace outdated government offices like Shastri Bhavan, Krishi Bhavan, Udyog Bhavan, and Nirman Bhavan, many of which date back to the 1950s–70s. With enhanced infrastructure, energy efficiency, and modern amenities, Kartavya Bhavan aims to improve productivity, cut operational costs, and offer a better work environment for thousands of government employees.
PM Modi, accompanied by Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Secretary K. Srinivas, toured the facility as Srinivas highlighted its key features. The government also announced that two more secretariat buildings are set to be completed by next month, signaling steady progress in the mission to reshape India’s administrative heartland.
