Prime Minister Narendra Modi has introduced a visionary 21-Point Action Plan aimed at deepening cooperation among BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) nations. This strategic roadmap reinforces India’s commitment to regional integration and sustainable development.
Key highlights of the initiative include a BIMSTEC Free Trade Agreement (FTA) to enhance economic ties, the establishment of a Technology Transfer Centre in Colombo to drive innovation in biotechnology, IT, and space technology, and a Security Cooperation Framework positioning India at the forefront of counter-terrorism and transnational crime efforts.
The plan also emphasizes Connectivity Projects with a comprehensive Master Plan for Transport Connectivity, aiming to boost trade and mobility across the region. Additionally, Humanitarian Assistance provisions have been outlined to ensure a coordinated response to natural disasters, including the recent Myanmar earthquake.
With this action plan, India is spearheading a holistic approach to regional collaboration, fostering economic growth, technological progress, security, and disaster resilience among BIMSTEC nations.
