PM Modi Unveils ₹4,000-Crore Integrated Terminal at Guwahati Airport, Boosting Northeast Connectivity

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated the new Integrated Terminal 2 Building at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, marking a major milestone in India’s aviation infrastructure. Built at a cost of ₹4,000 crore, the state-of-the-art terminal is designed to handle 13.1 million passengers annually, significantly enhancing air travel capacity in the Northeast.

Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister said the new terminal reflects India’s rapid strides in modern, world-class infrastructure and reaffirmed the government’s focus on strengthening connectivity in the northeastern states. PM described Guwahati as the gateway to the Northeast, noting that improved airport facilities would accelerate tourism, trade and economic growth in the region.

The integrated terminal boasts advanced security systems, modern passenger amenities, efficient baggage handling and energy-efficient features, ensuring a seamless travel experience. The architecture blends contemporary design with Assamese cultural elements, offering passengers a unique sense of place.

PM Modi highlighted that airport expansions across the country are transforming air travel, making it more accessible while creating employment and investment opportunities. The new terminal is expected to ease congestion at existing facilities and meet the rapidly growing passenger demand in Guwahati.

With the inauguration of Terminal 2, Guwahati Airport takes a decisive step towards becoming a major aviation hub in eastern India, reinforcing the Northeast’s integration with the rest of the country and the global aviation network.
