New Delhi – Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit China to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, scheduled to take place from August 31 to September 1. If confirmed, this would mark a significant diplomatic engagement amid ongoing border tensions between the two countries.
The summit, which brings together leaders from China, Russia, India, Pakistan, and Central Asian nations, will focus on regional security, economic cooperation, and counterterrorism efforts. PM Modi’s participation is being closely watched for potential high-level interactions, particularly with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
While there has been no official confirmation from the Ministry of External Affairs yet, sources indicate that the Prime Minister’s attendance is “highly likely,” given India’s active role in the SCO and its strategic interest in regional stability.
This visit, if it goes ahead, will be Modi’s first to China in recent years, and comes at a time when diplomatic channels between New Delhi and Beijing are being cautiously explored to ease lingering border disputes in eastern Ladakh.
More details on the visit and PM Modi’s bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit are expected to emerge in the coming days.
