PM Modi Honoured with Ethiopia’s Highest Civilian Award, Dedicates It to People of India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred Ethiopia’s highest civilian honour, “The Great Honour Nishan of Ethiopia,” during his official visit to the African nation. The prestigious award was presented by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, recognising PM Modi’s outstanding contribution to strengthening bilateral ties and his global leadership.

Prime Minister Modi becomes the first head of state or government in the world to receive Ethiopia’s top national honour, marking a historic diplomatic milestone. Accepting the award, the Prime Minister expressed deep gratitude and humility, dedicating the honour to the 140 crore people of India.

“This recognition reflects the centuries-old friendship between India and Ethiopia and the shared values that bind our nations,” PM Modi said, describing the award as a tribute to the growing partnership between the two countries.

The honour underscores India’s rising global stature and the deepening engagement between India and Africa, particularly in areas such as trade, investment, development cooperation, and people-to-people ties. PM Modi’s visit is also expected to give fresh momentum to bilateral cooperation and reinforce India’s role as a trusted partner in Africa’s growth story.

The conferral of Ethiopia’s highest award adds another significant chapter to PM Modi’s diplomatic achievements on the global stage.
