PM Modi Hails Men’s Hockey Asia Cup 2025 Kickoff in Rajgir on National Sports Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his best wishes to players and fans as the Men’s Hockey Asia Cup 2025 gets underway in Rajgir, Bihar, on August 29. The tournament’s opening coincides with National Sports Day, celebrated in honor of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand’s birth anniversary, adding special significance to the event.

Applauding Bihar’s rise as a vibrant sporting hub, the Prime Minister praised the state for successfully hosting major events including the Khelo India Youth Games 2025, Asia Rugby U20 Sevens Championship 2025, ISTAF Sepaktakraw World Cup 2024, and the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy 2024.

Modi expressed confidence that the Asia Cup will deliver thrilling contests, world-class performances, and unforgettable moments, inspiring the next generation of athletes.

The 12th edition of the Men’s Asia Cup runs from August 29 to September 7 at the Bihar Sports University Hockey Stadium, Rajgir, featuring eight nations. The champion will secure a direct berth in the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup, making the stakes higher than ever.
