Modi highlighted that despite the existence of laws designed to protect women, including fast-track courts and witness protection programs, there is an urgent need for stricter enforcement. He urged district authorities to prioritize swift justice in these cases, emphasizing that quick decisions are essential for safeguarding women.
This statement comes in response to widespread outrage following the Kolkata tragedy and a plea from West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for stronger central legislation to combat heinous crimes like rape and murder.
