Kochi: A petition has been filed before the Kerala High Court against temples allegedly flouting the ban on firecrackers in silent zones. The petitioner claims that despite restrictions, fireworks are frequently used near residential areas and beyond permissible hours, violating pollution control norms.
According to the plea, temples in designated silent zones continue to burst firecrackers, causing noise and air pollution, affecting local residents, students, and patients in nearby hospitals. The petitioner has urged the court to enforce strict compliance with existing laws and direct authorities to take action against violators.
The High Court is expected to consider the plea soon, as concerns over pollution and noise disturbances from temple festivals remain a contentious issue in Kerala.
