Panic in Delhi-NCR as 4.4 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes; Second Strong Jolt in 5 Months

New Delhi: A powerful tremor rattled Delhi and its neighboring regions on Thursday morning, sending waves of panic across the National Capital Region (NCR). The earthquake, which struck at 9:04 AM, registered a magnitude of 4.4 on the Richter scale and lasted up to 10 minutes, according to early reports.

The epicenter was located in Jhajjar, Haryana, approximately 60 kilometers from Delhi, as confirmed by the National Center for Seismology.

Strong tremors were felt in New Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad, with residents — especially those in high-rise apartments — reporting intense shaking. Fortunately, no casualties or damage have been reported.

This marks the second major earthquake in the Delhi-NCR region in five months. On February 17, a 4.0 magnitude quake had shaken the capital, with its epicenter near Dhaula Kuan.

While officials are closely monitoring the situation, experts have advised the public to remain alert but not alarmed.
