Padmaja Venugopal to Contest from Thrissur for BJP

Padmaja Venugopal will contest from the Thrissur constituency as a candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the upcoming elections. Padmaja was born on October 27, 1960. She is the daughter of former K. Karunakaran, who served as Chief Minister of Kerala, and Kalyani Kuttyamma.

She first contested an election in 2004 as a candidate of the Indian National Congress from Mukundapuram, which later became part of the Chalakudy constituency. Later, she contested from Thrissur in the 2016 Assembly elections. In the 2021 Assembly elections, Padmaja lost the Thrissur seat by a narrow margin.

Padmaja has been active in politics and social work for many years. Earlier, she held several important positions in the Congress party, including Vice President and General Secretary of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee. She was also a member of the political affairs committee of the KPCC and a member of the All India Congress Committee.

She also served as the president of the District Congress Committee from 2019 to 2021 and led several trade union organisations. Padmaja is married to Dr. Venugopal and is the mother of two children. She is currently a member of the National Executive Committee of the BJP.
