New Delhi: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has sought a response from the Uttar Pradesh government regarding concerns over open defecation at the Maha Kumbh Mela. The tribunal was hearing an application demanding ₹10 crore in environmental compensation from the state for failing to provide adequate sanitary facilities at the event.
The plea highlighted the environmental hazards caused by improper waste management and the lack of sufficient toilets for pilgrims. The NGT has directed the state authorities to submit their response on measures taken to ensure sanitation and hygiene at the mega religious gathering.
