Mollywood Goes Clean: Mandatory ‘No-Drug’ Affidavit for Cast and Crew from June 26

The Kerala Film Producers’ Association (KFPA) has announced a first-of-its-kind initiative mandating all actors and crew members to sign a “No-Drug Affidavit” before starting work on a film. Effective from June 26—coinciding with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking—this legally binding clause will be part of remuneration contracts. The affidavit includes a zero-tolerance pledge against drug use both on set and in production accommodations, with a penalty clause holding violators financially accountable for any production losses caused by misconduct.

The move comes in the wake of high-profile controversies involving actors like Shine Tom Chacko and directors such as Khalid Rahman and Ashraf Hamza, as well as allegations of film budgets being misused for drugs. Industry bodies like FEFKA have already backed the decision, while AMMA is expected to finalize its stance after a meeting on June 22. With this initiative, the Malayalam film industry aims to restore professionalism and public trust, sending a clear message: “No Drugs – No Exceptions.”
