MELBOURNE: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a large gathering of the Indian diaspora at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium on Thursday, with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese joining the event.
Modi thanked the Indian community for their warm welcome and praised Albanese’s commitment to strengthening India-Australia ties. He described the two countries as natural partners, citing growing cooperation in trade, education, technology, and innovation.

Highlighting India’s rapid economic growth, digital transformation, semiconductor and smartphone manufacturing, and defence exports, Modi invited the diaspora to contribute ideas and expertise towards the vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
He also lauded the Indian community as a “living bridge” between the two nations and noted the expanding educational partnership, with a large number of Indian students in Australia and Australian universities establishing campuses in India.

The event was attended by students, professionals, entrepreneurs, researchers, and community leaders. Australia is home to around one million people of Indian origin.
