Kozhikode: Kerala’s iconic dairy brand Milma is rapidly expanding its global footprint, exporting over three tonnes of products to Gulf countries as part of a strategic tie-up with retail giant Lulu Group. This marks a major leap for the cooperative, which is now aggressively targeting international markets, including the United States and Maldives.
While Milma’s ghee has long been a favorite among Gulf-based Malayalis, this latest export shipment includes a broader range of products—Paneer Butter Masala, Instant Pulissery Mix, Ready-to-Drink Palada Payasam, Flavored Milk, Clarified Butter (Ghee), and Instant Milk Powder—signaling the brand’s shift from niche to mainstream in the global arena.
Distributed exclusively by Lulu Group, Milma products will now be widely available across hypermarkets and retail chains throughout the Gulf. “This is just the beginning,” said Milma Chairman K.S. Mani in a statement to The New Indian Express. “Our goal is to reach every major market around the world.”
Mani also revealed that Long-Life Milk products are being developed specifically for the Maldives, with the first export order already dispatched. A newly launched plant in Morkkanad, Malappuram, is playing a crucial role in producing refined ghee and milk powder for international demand.
With a focus on modern processing and packaging technology, Milma aims to ensure premium quality and extended shelf life for its global offerings. Looking ahead, the cooperative plans to open more production units and is currently working to meet U.S. FDA standards for over 18 products, including its signature Palada Payasam mix and ghee.
“Once technical approvals are complete, our products will soon be on shelves across the United States,” Mani confirmed, marking a proud new chapter in Milma’s journey from local favorite to global dairy powerhouse.
