The crescent moon marking the beginning of the Islamic month of Rabi-ul-Awwal was sighted yesterday, making today the first day of the holy month. Religious scholars have confirmed that Milad-un-Nabi—the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad—will be observed on Friday, September 5.
The announcement was made by leading scholars and community leaders, including Sayyid Muhammad Jifri Muthukkoya Thangal, President of Samastha Kerala Jem-iyyathul Ulama; Prof. K. Alikkutty Musliyar, General Secretary of Samastha; Sayyid Muhammad Koya Thangal Jamalullaili, Qazi of Kozhikode; and Sayyid Nasarhayi Shihab Thangal, Deputy to Panakkad Sayyid Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal and Qazi of Kozhikode.
Rabi-ul-Awwal holds great significance in Islam as it marks the birth of Prophet Muhammad. The Ministry of Religious Affairs in Oman also confirmed the beginning of Rabi-ul-Awwal, declaring September 5 (12 Rabi-ul-Awwal) as a public holiday to commemorate Milad-un-Nabi.
